As the T20 has begun, we sat down with the Somerset County Cricket Club team and asked them a few questions about life on and off the pitch.

  1. What is your game day grooming regime?

I like to style my hair with some kind of wax product and I generally tend to give my beard a little bit of a comb.

  1. What’s your best grooming tips?

From a very early age my nan said, “You must always make the best of your appearance”, so if you can look in the mirror and be happy with what you see then you are on the right road.

  1. Who taught you to shave?

I remember watching my dad shave. There was one moment when my brother and I were about 5 or 6 and we got hold of dad’s razor. We were in the bath together, as you did back in the 1980’s, and I can remember that my brother talked me in to shaving my legs and my face.  My mum came in at some stage and screamed because of all the blood.  So I suppose my brother taught me to shave really, although he did it pretty badly.

  1. Which is your favourite Real Shaving Company product and why?

The SPF15 Anti-Ageing Moisturiser.  I’m at the age now where I need to be a little bit mindful about my skin, especially around my eyes. That is certainly one product that I’ve been using regularly.

  1. Are you looking forward to the T20? What makes it different to other games?

I always look forward to the NatWest T20 Blast.  There’s a lot of energy around at those games.  It’s the main format in which you can express yourself as a batsman in particular and I’m really looking forward to it.

  1. How long have you been playing and when did you decide you wanted to be a pro cricketer?

I probably decided that I wanted to play professionally when I was about 15.  I’ve been playing for Somerset since 1997 and I’ve loved every minute of it.  It’s been a fantastic career so far and I’ve probably only got a couple of years left and I plan to really enjoy those.

  1. How important is sun protection when you’re out playing all day?

Absolutely vital.  I try to make sure that there’s some kind of SPF factor in any moisturiser that I use, which brings us back to my favourite Real Shaving Company product.

  1. Finally, who’s the best groomed player in the team and why?

I’m going to say me.  I probably spend more time shaping my beard than most people do on a full shave plus most of the other lads are as scruffy as hell!
